Lost and Found

Lost and Found Photograph

1. I found a photograph of my mom standing outside of a hotel in vancouver, her expression and positioning caught my attention, as well as the way the light made her hair look orange rather than brown. I found it intriguing because the positioning was arms crossed, mouth set, a relatively unfriendly and possibly angry positioning. Her eyes, however, told a different story. They were bright and curious, and they did not look angry.
2. In this photograph I wanted to question the perception we have of people in photographs, the idea of the 'single glance tells all' that some people tend to gravitate towards with some photographs. To do so I copied the photo several times with a printer, and then laid them over each other in different ways to try and find a really strange/abstract compilation. I intended for the viewer to question the expression of the person in the photo, and the way the positioning of the things in a photo affect the viewer.
3. Personally, I believe that it is engaging, in that your eye follows the lined pattern in the centre created by the arms. I had issues taking photographs of the finished product, and I think that took away from the finished result somewhat, but I am happy with the finished product nonetheless. I would like to think that it is a creative idea, but I could probably enhance it somewhat if I had another photo added in. As it is, I am happy with the finished photograph and believe that I have achieved what I set out to do, though given the chance, I would like to try this project again and see how I might improve this photo or make a whole new one in the same style.
