Portrait Photographer Research Assignment

Diane Arbus, Child with Toy Hand-Grenade

This portrait uses natural lighting, but the light has been scattered by tree leaves, and adds a feeling of depth. The child's expression and positioning is unique, drawing the eye up from the shoes to the face.
Annie Leibovitz

I chose this photograph because it uses the rule of thirds to draw the eye, as well as dramatic colour bursts and a good use of lighting to draw attention. It also has the sort of dramatic tension you would expect to find in this story book scene.
Cindy Sherman, Untitled Film Stills #32

This is a good example of portraiture, because it has a good use of extreme lights and darks,  and the use of line draws the eye up from the hand across the match and cigarette to the face.
